Enjoy a leisurely day in the country as you visit over thirty five historical buildings or walk on our picturesque nature trails. Log cabins, one room school house, blacksmith shop, railway station, general store, steam locomotive and many other destinations  interpreted by enthusiastic and knowledgeable costumed interpreters make your visit something special for the whole family.  Don’t forget to drop in at the General Store soda shop for a light lunch, indulge in Eddie D. Cat confections or purchase one of a kind items in our gift shop. Tours are self guided or with a costumed guide on the hour. There is also a picnic area available.

Step through Westfield’s Gates of Time into the 2nd Annual Telling Tales Festival – Celebrating Canada’s leading children’s writers, illustrators and musicians with programs for everyone! Meet historical literary characters like Mark Twain, Anne Of Green Gables…or even infamous Pyrates who’ll regale ye with tales of the sea!

More than a celebration of stories and storytelling, Telling Tales is an important fundraising event, committed to providing financial assistance to much-needed local literacy programs. In it’s first year, the festival raised $20,000 for local literacy projects!

Here are some exciting new developments for the 2010 Telling Tales Festival:

We are thrilled to be featuring the exciting and national TD Children’s Literature Award. Early in the afternoon there will be a special presentation of the 2009 award winning picture book Shin Chi’s Canoe.

Hamilton’s “Lifelong Learning Week” has grown to become a huge community collaboration. Last year over 1,400 events were held with well over 50,000 attendees! This year Telling Tales is proud to host the kick off event for this huge community endeavor. A special ceremony will take place at the Victorian Bandstand at 11:00 am. The next two Fridays (August 13 and 20) join us from 8:00 pm – 10:00 pm for Westfield’s unique Ghost Tours!

Experience the twilight hours of our historical village as the strange stories of the past are unearthed and historical figures return to tell their tale during this tour through time.

All tickets are $10 and must be purchased in advance.

Join us in the Village Sunday (Aug. 1) and Monday (Aug. 2) to experience the fun and nostalgia of ice cream in pioneer and Victorian times – and sample some traditional frozen treats!

Live music, horse & wagon rides, magic show, games and living history make the perfect topping for a family outing.

From 10 am to 4 pm both days. Special Event admission rates apply: adults: $11, seniors/disabled: $10, children 6-12 years old: $6.50. Children 5 and under are free. Parking is always free.

We have adjusted our entrance fees slightly – taxes are included.

Regular Pricing: Adults (18-64) $8.50, Seniors/Disabled/Students (13-17) $7.50, Children (6-12) $5.50, Children 5 years and under are free. Parking is free.

On Sunday, July 18, Westfield Heritage Village welcomes Canadian World War Two re-enactors to the site honouring the Canadian contribution to the War. There will be an authentic WWII encampment, historical uniforms, weapons & other displays. A tactical demonstration will take place in the meadow.

Join us for Canada Day celebrations this Thursday (July 1, 2010) during regular hours (12:30 pm to 4 pm).

Tour the historical buildings of our village or walk the 120 hectares of nature trails.  You’d be sure to run into famous historical characters and celebrate our heritage.  Sir John A. Macdonald (played by Cecil Hamilton), Abegale Becker (the heroine of Port Dover) (played by famed story teller Pauline Grondin), and Robert Land (played by Colin Carlton).  An historical fashion show will take place at 2 pm followed by a period dance.

Receive free flags and pins while supplies last!

Sunday, June 20th, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Join the Rockton Antique Hobby Club and other hobbyists for a special day of steam and machines featuring steam traction engine rides, model machines, antique agricultural equipment, vintage cars and more.  The Cambridge Spinners and Weavers Guild will put on a special presentation exploring dyes and weaving.

Muscle cars, vintage cars and antique cars are welcome and receive 2 free admissions.  Visit these other great steam and machine related museums: Stratford-Perth Museum, Northern Ontario Rail Road Museum and Heritage Centre, Niagara Falls Railway Museum, and the Elgin County Railway Museum.

Adults $9.75, Seniors/Disabled $8.75, Youth 6-12 years of age $5.75, Children 5 years and under are free, Parking is free.

Join us this Sunday (May 1) for Doors Open Hamilton!

Tour Westfield free of charge as the city wide Doors Open celebration makes a variety of sites accessible and free. Peter Lloyd will provide behind the scenes tours of the collection every half hour on the half hour.

Earth Day, 2010

Sunday April 25th, 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.

This Earth Day, Westfield will officially open three separate projects offering environmental education programmes for children and the general public, and land reclamation through tree planting. Official Ceremonies will be at 1 pm.  This is the largest single TD Friends of the Environment grant given in the area to date and is responsible for creating a bee observation hive, historical green house, native species garden, Regency period garden, and an endangered tree species teaching forest. Westfield gratefully acknowledges the support of the TD Friends of the Environment and the local Hamilton committee.
